Special voter registration drive on December 7

A special voter registration drive is being held on December 7 as part of the Special Enrolment Programme 2015, State Chief Electoral Officer Bhanwar Lal has said at a meeting with officials of north coastal Andhra districts here. He wanted the District Election Officers and Returning Officers to ensure enrolment of youth who will be completing 18 years as on January 1, 2015 and those who have not got themselves registered as voters. Awareness programmes must be conducted for college students, industrial workers and rural youth to improve registration on a large scale. Awareness on online registration must be created and extensive publicity was needed through media, Mr. Bhanwar Lal said. Corrections in voter lists and EPICs should also be carried out, he said. The CEO said that Vizianagaram recorded the lowest enrolment in the special drive that commenced on October 25 while Visakhapatnam’s performance was average and Srikakulam failed to record satisfactory performance. He wanted Aadhar linkage provided to the EPICs to eliminate bogus voter Id cards. Mr. Bhanwar Lal told the officials to submit pending reports on expenses and paid news without delay.
